Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III on Monday said he will recommend that Sen. Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa be issued a show cause order in connection with a complaint filed against him before the Senate Ethics Committee.
Sotto said he would raise the proposal during the committee’s meeting, noting that it is chaired by Sen. JV Ejercito and not by him. He likened the proposed action to the Senate’s usual issuance of show cause orders to officials who fail to attend hearings.
Under the proposal, Dela Rosa would be required to explain his side on the complaint lodged before the ethics panel.
Sotto said there has been no decision yet on a separate request to suspend Dela Rosa’s salary and allowances, adding that the senator has not yet coordinated with him regarding the matter.
The Senate reopened its session Monday with Sotto leading the flag-raising ceremony.
“Ang isa-suggest ko is ipaalam namin kay Sen. Bato na hihingan namin siya ng sagot doon sa complaint sa kanya sa ethics.”
Dela Rosa has been absent from Senate sessions since Nov. 11, 2025, after reports circulated of an arrest warrant allegedly issued by the International Criminal Court.
