Senator Risa Hontiveros has strongly condemned the alleged harassment of actress Xyriel Manabat following a viral vulgar post involving a TNVS driver, stressing that such acts are punishable under the law.

In a statement, Hontiveros said, “Mariin nating kinokondena ang pambabastos kay Xyriel Manabat,” adding that under the Safe Spaces Act or Bawal Bastos Law, any form of sexual harassment—whether in public, private, or online—is strictly prohibited.

The senator noted that the driver involved may face liability for “gender-based online sexual harassment,” which carries penalties including fines or imprisonment. She also emphasized the responsibility of TNVS and PUV drivers to ensure passenger safety and take action against abusive behavior.

Manabat earlier spoke out against the viral post, vowing not to let the incident pass and calling attention to the importance of accountability online.

Hontiveros further underscored that being a public figure does not justify harassment, citing similar incidents involving celebrities such as Anne Curtis and Angel Aquino.

“Respect is the bare minimum and should be non-negotiable,” she said, urging the public not to remain silent in the face of abuse.

In a statement released Thursday, Grab Philippines issued an apology to Manabat and announced that the driver had been placed under preventive suspension, describing it as an unacceptable experience.
