Senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan called for a full account of the recent security incident inside the Senate, expressing concern over what he described as an unprecedented breakdown of order within the institution.
In a ">social media post, Pangilinan said he, like many Filipinos, wants clarity on what truly happened during the reported gunfire and heightened tensions inside the Senate compound.
“Gusto ko ring malaman kung ano ang tunay na nangyari, paano nangyari, at bakit nangyari,” he said, adding that the incident was both “nakakagulat at nakakalungkot” for a long-serving lawmaker.
He described the situation as an alarming level of disorder inside what is expected to be a secure and respected democratic institution, noting it is the first time he has experienced such an event in his four non-consecutive terms as senator.
“Hindi pa ako nakaranas ng ganyang level of lawlessness sa loob ng isang kagalang-galang at ligtas na institusyon,” Pangilinan said.
The statement comes amid reports of gunfire inside the Senate and confusion surrounding security movements, including claims that Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa allegedly left the premises hours after the incident, as well as heightened political tension within the chamber.
Pangilinan also dismissed circulating rumors that minority senators were warned in advance of the incident, saying no such warning was received.
“May mga kumakalat na sabi-sabi na na-warningan daw kaming nasa minority… Hindi totoo ‘yun,” he said, adding that he had already left early for an external meeting when the situation unfolded.
He emphasized the need for the Senate to return to its core mandate of delivering competent, fair, and efficient public service amid calls for accountability and a full investigation into the incident.
“Gusto kong bumalik ang Senado sa mga tungkulin nito,” he said.
