Gunshots were reportedly heard from the second floor of the Senate building on Wednesday evening, May 13, amid heightened tensions surrounding Sen. Ronald "Bato" dela Rosa and reports of a possible arrest linked to the International Criminal Court (ICC) investigation.
According to RH Raymund Dadpaas, several gunshots were heard inside the Senate building, prompting authorities to evacuate members of the media and other civilians from the Senate premises.
Reports also indicated that lights inside portions of the Senate building were turned off during the incident as security personnel tightened operations within the compound.
The incident came hours after speculation intensified over a possible arrest operation against Dela Rosa following reports that law enforcement agencies could implement an ICC-related warrant at any time.
As of posting time, authorities have yet to issue an official statement confirming the source of the gunfire or whether the incident was directly connected to the situation involving Dela Rosa.
Security forces remain deployed around the Senate complex while investigations and clearing operations continue.
This is a developing story.
