The death toll from the collapse of an unfinished building in Barangay Balibago, Angeles City has climbed to two after another victim pulled from the rubble early Monday morning was declared dead.
According to a report by Val Gonzales during Dos Por Dos, the male victim, identified as a construction worker, was recovered by emergency responders shortly after midnight from the site of the collapsed structure. Rescuers attempted to revive him, but he was later declared dead.
The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP)–Central Luzon also confirmed the second fatality.
Earlier, a Malaysian national trapped inside an apartelle beside the collapsed building also died following the incident. Authorities have already recovered the foreigner’s remains.
As of posting time, authorities said 26 of the 47 reported victims have been rescued, while 18 individuals remain missing as search and rescue operations continue.
The building collapsed at around 2:30 a.m. on Sunday and also damaged nearby structures, including an adjacent apartelle.
According to Barangay Balibago Captain Joseph Ponce, construction of the building began in 2023 but remained unfinished due to prolonged delays.
Most of the trapped individuals are believed to be construction workers, some of whom reportedly arrived from Metro Manila only last week to work on the project.
Rescue teams from various government agencies are assisting in the ongoing search and recovery operations, as authorities continue to sift through the debris in efforts to locate the remaining missing persons.
