The Albay Provincial Board has approved the request to declare eight local government units (LGUs) under a state of calamity.

On Tuesday, May 5, the Albay Provincial Information Office announced that the Provincial Board approved the resolution amid Mayon Volcano’s ongoing activity, specifically the recent ashfall caused by the pyroclastic density current (PDC) on May 2.

The following cities affected are: Tabaco, Legazpi, and Ligao.

Meanwhile, the municipalities of Camalig, Malilipot, Sto. Domingo, Daraga, and Guinobatan are included.

According to the Albay Provincial Information Office, the resolution was authored by Committee on Crisis and Emergency Management Ex-Officio Board Member Milagros B. Bal and was co-authored by the board members who were present.

Over the weekend, the PHIVOLCS reported an ongoing PDC along the slopes of the volcano, blanketing several areas in the Bicol Region with ashfall. Moreover, the areas of Guinobatan and Calamig experienced near-zero visibility as a result of the heavy ashfall.

Meanwhile, the Philippine National Police (PNP) intensified security measures around Mayon Volcano, studying the possibility of expanding the 6-kilometer danger zone to 7.
