For the Philippines, the wait for a second Miss World crown continues.
In 2013, Megan Young made history as the first Filipina to win the prestigious title, ending a four-decade wait and further cementing the Philippines as a pageant powerhouse.
Interestingly, 2013 was also a remarkable year for Philippine pageantry, as the country won Miss World, Miss International, and Miss Supranational titles in the same year.
Since then, several Filipinas have come close. Catriona Gray finished in the Top 5 at Miss World 2016 before eventually winning the Miss Universe crown in 2018. Last year, Krishnah Gravidez reached the Top 8 and became Miss World Asia after Thailand's Opal Suchata Chuangsri won the crown.
Now, all eyes are on Asia Rose Simpson.
The 18-year-old Filipino-American beauty queen has emerged as one of the standout contenders at Miss World 2026 in Vietnam. She secured a Top 40 spot after winning the Head-to-Head Challenge for Asia and Oceania and also earned a podium finish in the Talent Challenge. Her advocacy was likewise recognized as she advanced as a Beauty With a Purpose finalist.
With momentum on her side, Asia has shown that she has more than just the beauty to compete—she has the confidence, talent, communication skills and purpose that the Miss World stage demands.
But could the Philippines' 2013 pageant glory be repeating itself?
Just a month ago, Katrina Llegado brought home the Philippines' second Miss Supranational crown, echoing the country's historic victory in the same pageant in 2013.
And in November, another Katrina—Katrina Johnson, who was already considered an early favorite for the crown—will represent the Philippines at Miss International.
With two major international crowns once again within reach, the timing is certainly intriguing.
Could this be a good sign for Asia?
The answer will finally be revealed tonight, September 5, as 110 delegates compete for the coveted crown, with reigning Miss World Opal Suchata Chuangsri of Thailand set to crown her successor.
For Filipino pageant fans, it is more than just another coronation night. It is another chance to end a 13-year wait.
