The Philippines reclaimed the Miss Supranational crown after 13 years as Maria Katrina Llegado was crowned Miss Supranational 2026 during the pageant's grand coronation night in Poland, becoming only the second Filipina to win the prestigious international title.
Llegado succeeded Brazil's Eduarda Braum and followed in the footsteps of Mutya Johanna Datul, who made history by becoming the Philippines' first Miss Supranational winner in 2013.
The victory capped off years of perseverance for Llegado, who represented the Philippines after earning the Miss Supranational Philippines title during Miss Universe Philippines 2025, where she finished among the Final 6.
A Winning Performance
During the competition's final question-and-answer round, Llegado was asked to share the moment she stopped trying to become the woman the world expected and embraced the woman she was truly meant to be.
"I always believe that we should never fit into a mold. We are perfectly imperfect. I am someone who struggles with perfection, but I am here today doing my best and becoming my best version. And here in Miss Supranational, I know I belong, I know a place for me, and this is becoming Supra, above and beyond," she answered.
Earlier, in the Top 12 round, contestants were asked what change they would create if given the opportunity.
"As a visionary leader, I want to be a shining example to every woman that we are only limited by the boundaries we set for ourselves. So let us never stop becoming because true greatness starts when limits end," Llegado said.
Her confident delivery, authenticity, and message of empowerment earned praise from pageant fans and judges alike.
A Symbolic Winning Gown
Llegado received the Miss Supranational crown wearing a radiant creation by Filipino designer Rian Fernandez, inspired by the beauty and hope of a sunrise.
Ahead of the finals, the beauty queen shared that the gown symbolized new beginnings and the aspirations of every Filipino.
"Inspired by the beauty and hope that every sunrise brings. Just like every sunrise, each new day is a chance to dream bigger, stand taller, and keep believing. Tonight, I wear not just a gown, but the hopes of every Filipino cheering me on," she wrote on The Miss Philippines Facebook page.
Emotional First Words as Miss Supranational
Moments after her victory, an emotional Llegado spoke with Missosology's Pawee Ventura during an ambush interview, expressing disbelief overending the Philippines' 13-year title drought.
"Now, I am Maria Katrina Llegado, Miss Supranational 2026... The Philippines!" she proudly declared.
"Oh my God, finally! After 13 years, I still can't believe it. Ang bilis ng mga pangyayari but I'm so, so happy. I'm grateful for this experience. I'm excited to work with the Supranational Organization and lalong excited ako makauwi sa Pilipinas for bringing home the Supranational crown. Nagkatotoo! Oh my God!"
Reflecting on the tense final moments against France, Llegado revealed she relied on faith while waiting for the announcement.
"I was just praying. I kept saying in my mind, 'Thy will be done.' If it's really meant for me, it will never pass me. So, I'm super, super grateful. I think this is not just a crown. It's a responsibility, and I'm really excited to work a year and more with the Supranational Organization."
She also candidly shared that her journey to the crown was not without setbacks.
"Actually, along the way, I had a lot of mishaps with the gown, with my look, and at some point, I was like, 'I'll just enjoy the runway.' During the evening gown competition, I forgot to wear one of my earrings, and that really made me panic. But after the break, I wore the earring and told myself I'd just enjoy the moment."
She concluded by dedicating her victory to the Filipinos who supported her throughout her pageant journey.
"Thank you so much to all the people who supported me. You don't know how much you encourage me whenever I go out on stage. I'm really, really grateful to all the people who support me—my family, my team. This is all for you. This is always about being able to make my younger self proud. So thank you so much."
Years of Persistence Finally Rewarded
Llegado's international triumph is the culmination of years of competing on the pageant stage.
She represented the Philippines at Reina Hispanoamericana 2019 after joining Miss World Philippines 2019, where she finished as 5th Runner-Up. She later competed in Miss Universe Philippines 2022 and placed Second Runner-Up behind eventual winner Celeste Cortesi.
Three years later, she returned to the national stage in Miss Universe Philippines 2025, secured the Miss Supranational Philippines title, and ultimately fulfilled her dream of bringing home the country's second Miss Supranational crown.
