Petron Corporation Chairman and CEO Ramon S. Ang assured the public Friday that the oil company, the country’s sole oil refinery under SMC, "will not take advantage" of the ongoing fuel crisis caused by tensions in the Middle East.
Speaking to reporters after the inauguration of the NAIA Expressway (NAIAX) Phase II westbound off-ramp to NAIA Terminal 3, Ang emphasized the company’s commitment to public service.
“Ang binibili naming crude oil mas mura kaysa refined product kaya very important po nag public service na ito and I promise the public we will not take advantage on this fuel crisis. Hindi kami kikita sa mahigit pa sa normal,” Ang said.
He added that he is willing to sacrifice company income if necessary. “And I’m willing to even lower the income, balewala sa akin ang income,” he said.
Ang also expressed openness to sell Petron Corporation to the government if it believes it can manage the company more efficiently amid ongoing concerns over the country’s fuel supply.
“In fact, sabi ko nga kung gusto ng gobyerno pwede ngang bilhin ng gobyerno ‘yung Petron sa akin kung sa tingin nila mas magaling sila magpatakbo,” he said.
“You have my 100% cooperation na tutulungan ang mga kababayan natin,” the business tycoon added.
The announcement came as President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr., along with DOTr Secretary Giovanni Lopez, DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon, Ang, and Toll Regulatory Board Executive Director Jose Arturo Tugade, led the opening of the 320-meter westbound off-ramp linking the NAIA Expressway to NAIA Terminal 3 in Pasay City.
Marcos said the new access road is expected to improve traffic flow along Andrews Avenue and facilitate smoother entry to NAIA ahead of the Holy Week travel period.
The President also noted that the country’s crude oil supply is sufficient until June 30, 2026.
