Vice President Sara Duterte invoked the assassination of former Senator Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr. as she expressed concern over her safety upon arriving at the Quezon City Regional Trial Court (QC RTC) on Saturday.
Duterte raised the incident as she made her way to the fifth floor of the QC RTC, where she was set to post bail following the issuance of an arrest warrant in connection with the grave threats cases filed against her.
The Vice President asked her lawyer if he remembered that Ninoy Aquino was killed on the stairs at the airport.
“Alam mo ba si Ninoy Aquino namatay sa hagdanan? Sa sobrang dami ng baril dito ngayon,” Duterte said, referring to the late senator.
Before entering the building, Duterte expressed fear for her life as she arrived at the Quezon City Hall of Justice.
“I do not feel safe. Pakiramdam ko papatayin nila ako,” Duterte said.
“Pakiramdam ko, papatayin ako anytime tapos ‘Sorry’ lang ang sasabihin sa akin,” she added.
Duterte later posted a total of P360,000 bail at the QC RTC, or P120,000 for each of the three counts of grave threats filed against her.
