Vice President Sara Duterte on Thursday criticized what she described as the “last-minute issuance” of her travel authority, saying the delay prompted her to cancel previously scheduled overseas travel plans.
In a letter addressed to the Office of the President, Duterte said the timing of the approval created uncertainty over whether she would be permitted to leave the country.
“Thank you for the last-minute issuance of the travel authority. I regret to inform you that the plans have since changed due to uncertainty whether I will be permitted to depart,” Duterte said.
She added that she intends to submit a new request for travel authority and called on the office to ensure earlier processing.
“You will be receiving a new request soon. Please ensure that the necessary documents be processed and issued promptly, allowing sufficient time for travel preparations rather than only a few hours before the intended departure,” she said.
She also raised concerns about the handling of sensitive documents, emphasizing the importance of confidentiality in official processes.
“Additionally, ensuring the confidentiality and proper handling of sensitive documents would greatly contribute to maintaining effective security arrangements,” she said.
Earlier, Malacañang confirmed that Duterte had been granted authority to travel abroad from April 23 to May 15, 2026.
According to the announcement, the Vice President was scheduled to visit the Netherlands, South Korea, Belgium, Germany, and the United Kingdom during that period.
