The United Bangsamoro Justice Party (UBJP) has asked the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to investigate the violent incidents in Cotabato City during the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) parliamentary election on Sept. 14.
In a letter to NBI Director Atty. Melvin Matibag, dated September 15, UBJP Secretary General Mohajirin Ali said the families of those who died in the incidents should be given justice.
Ali said that while the election was generally successful, the incidents should not be set aside, especially as they resulted in deaths, including some supporters of the party.
He expressed hope that authorities would give the matter attention to determine what really happened in Cotabato City during the election.
Ali said the NBI could obtain a clearer picture of the incidents through its discussions with Matibag, as well as the observations and reports of its personnel who were deployed on the ground.
Authorities reported at least seven election-related violent incidents that left four people dead and 17 others injured as of Monday, Sept. 14.
