The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) described the first parliamentary elections in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) as "generally peaceful" despite tensions reported in some areas.

In RH Edniel Parrosa's report on DZRH, Lieutenant Colonel Ronald Suscano, spokesperson for the AFP’s 6th Infantry Division, said 92.8% of polling precincts in the region experienced no major incidents during Monday’s elections.

Suscano said the elections were even more peaceful compared with previous elections held in the region.

Meanwhile, Major Orlando Ayllon Jr., spokesperson of the AFP Western Mindanao Command for the BARMM polls, stressed the reported tensions were isolated incidents that were quickly pacified by security forces.

Both military officials attributed the generally peaceful conduct of the elections to close coordination among the AFP, Philippine National Police (PNP), and Commission on Elections (Comelec).

The assessment came despite at least seven election-related violent incidents that left four people dead and 17 others injured as of Monday, September 14, according to authorities.

Meanwhile, voting in Maluso, Basilan is set to resume Tuesday morning, Sept. 15 after the discovery of pre-shaded ballots prompted the postponement of voting in the area.

The Comelec extended voting in Maluso to Tuesday following the delivery of reprinted ballots from Manila late Monday night.
