Two third-class cadets of the Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA) have been arrested over a fresh hazing incident inside the academy barracks as authorities intensify a crackdown on abuse within the country’s premier police training institution.
According to newly installed PNPA Director Redrico Maranan, the suspects are now under the custody of the Silang Municipal Police following allegations that they physically harmed two plebes. The case was discovered on April 19 during a routine body check, when academy personnel noticed bruising on the soles of the victims’ feet. Initial findings revealed that the victims were allegedly struck with a yantok (rattan stick) by senior cadets as punishment for perceived slow movements. Authorities emphasized that such acts are not part of official disciplinary measures and violate academy regulations. The new incident is separate from an earlier hazing case reported on April 3, in which 22 cadets were allegedly subjected to acid pouring. That case led to complaints being filed before the Imus Prosecutor’s Office against seven senior cadets and three police tactical officers. Following the latest development, the two newly arrested cadets are also facing dismissal from the academy, joining the seven earlier respondents who have already been expelled. Maranan disclosed the updates during his first day as PNPA director, where he also formalized the dismissal orders, signaling a stricter stance against hazing and misconduct within the institution.
