Senator-elect Panfilo “Ping” Lacson expressed fear over the United States’ (US) move to bomb Iran’s three nuclear facilities, stating it could trigger a world war.

On early Monday, June 23, the Senator-elect described U.S. President Donald Trump’s decision to attack the key nuclear sites in Iran.

“US President Trump’s unprecedentedly dangerous move to “obliterate” Iran’s highly fortified nuclear facilities, if not as factual as he had described it could trigger a world war on a scale nobody has ever witnessed or read about. Ancient history taught us about Persia’s ability to recover with deadly vengeance,” Lacson said in a tweet.

Tensions between countries arose after the United States targeted Iran’s nuclear program over the weekend. Subsequently, U.S. Vice President JD Vance and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth stated they were not working to overthrow Iran’s government.

Trump said in a social media post that it is not politically correct to use the term “regime change.” However, if the current Iranian Regime is unable to “Make Iran Great Again (MIGA),” Trump questioned why there wouldn’t be a regime change.

In a separate tweet, Lacson said he is trusting the government agencies with their plans and contingency plans for over two million OFWs.

“Back here at home, I trust that concerned government agencies already have in place workable evacuation and contingency plans for more than 2 million OFWs currently deployed in the Middle East,” he said.

According to the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW), the first batch of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who applied for the government’s voluntary repatriation program is expected to arrive in Manila on Tuesday, June 24, with Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac.
