The driver of an SUV involved in a hit-and-run incident that injured a Highway Patrol Group (HPG) officer along the South Luzon Expressway in San Pedro, Laguna has surrendered to authorities, police said on Wednesday.
According to a report by RH Edniel Parrosa, HPG Director PBGen. Romel Batangan said the 21-year-old Filipino-Indian national voluntarily turned himself in to the HPG on Tuesday, days after the June 6 incident.
Authorities earlier traced the SUV believed to have been used in the incident to Antipolo City.
According to initial accounts provided to investigators, the driver said he panicked after allegedly accidentally hitting the police officer while overtaking along the highway, prompting him to leave the scene.
The HPG officer was injured in the hit-and-run and was brought for medical treatment following the incident.
Police said appropriate charges are being prepared as the investigation continues.
