A marine transportation student has been honored by several towns in Quezon Province after rescuing two children from drowning using cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).

Von Untalan received multiple recognitions following the June 27 incident at a beach resort in Barangay Matandang Sabang Kanluran, where he successfully revived two minors who had nearly drowned.

Local officials and residents praised Untalan for his quick response and proper execution of CPR, which authorities said played a critical role in saving the children’s lives.

The Inter-global College Foundation Inc. granted Untalan a full scholarship along with additional benefits in recognition of his actions.

Meanwhile, the municipal government of Catanauan, led by Mayor Ramon Orfanel and members of the Sangguniang Bayan, awarded Untalan with a cash incentive and formal commendation.

Officials said Untalan’s presence of mind and lifesaving skills serve as an example of the importance of emergency preparedness and first aid training, especially in coastal communities.
