Two children were rescued from drowning after chasing a floating bottle into deeper waters off the coast of Quezon province on Saturday, June 27, with a marine engineering student credited for helping save their lives by performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).

According to a report by Benjie Antioquia, the incident happened along the shoreline of Barangay Malaya in General Luna, where the children had been swimming before they drifted into deeper waters while trying to retrieve the floating object.

Beachgoers noticed the children struggling and immediately rushed to their aid. With the help of nearby swimmers, the pair were pulled from the sea and brought safely to shore.

A marine engineering student who witnessed the incident quickly administered CPR after the children were rescued. The life-saving intervention helped revive both children, who regained consciousness moments later.

Authorities said the prompt response of the rescuers, coupled with the student's knowledge of emergency first aid, proved critical in preventing what could have been a tragic outcome.

Following the incident, officials reiterated their warning to parents and guardians to closely monitor minors while swimming, whether at beaches or pools, to prevent similar incidents.
