Several senators from the majority bloc have declared their full attendance for the special session called by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Wednesday, June 17, as Congress moves to tackle key legislative priorities.
Senator Juan Miguel “Migs” Zubiri said the agenda is focused on healthcare, education funding, and assistance for Filipinos in crisis, noting that lawmakers are prepared to work without delays during the session.
The Commission on Appointments is also expected to convene alongside the special session to act on the confirmation of senior Armed Forces of the Philippines officials and Department of Foreign Affairs foreign service officers.
Senator Erwin Tulfo said the Senate is ready for a full-day session, expressing hope that pending measures and confirmations will be completed within the day. He also noted expectations that attendance may reach or exceed the threshold needed to move forward with leadership-related proceedings.
Senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan said that even without members of the minority bloc, a quorum can still be achieved if at least 12 senators are present, including Senator Joel Villanueva, who has confirmed his participation in the session.
