Work at the Senate was suspended Thursday, Aug. 6, due to heavy rainfall brought by Tropical Storm Maymay and the southwest monsoon, Senate President Sherwin Gatchalian said.

In an advisory, Gatchalian ordered the suspension of work at the Senate in line with Memorandum Circular No. 122 issued by the Office of the President on Aug. 5, which halted operations in government offices across Metro Manila.

The circular cited forecasts of intense rainfall caused by the combined effects of the storm and the southwest monsoon, locally known as “habagat.”

Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Maymay made landfall in Magsingal, Ilocos Sur, at 2 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 6, and continued moving across Northern Luzon, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.
