Senate Minority Leader Alan Peter Cayetano said the minority bloc will remain committed to its role as a fiscalizer and constructive oppositionist despite changes in Senate political alliances.

Cayetano issued the statement after Sen. Mark Villar left the minority bloc and joined the Senate majority on Thursday. Villar was elected to the Commission on Appointments and named chairman of the Senate Committee on Public Works as part of the majority, according to Majority Leader Juan Miguel Zubiri.

“Senate coalitions may change, but our vision, principles, and commitment to GOD and to the Filipino people remain steadfast,” Cayetano said in a social media post.

He acknowledged that political alliances can shift, noting that the administration has sought to maintain a closely allied working majority in the Senate.

“But regardless of how the political landscape shifts, our duty remains unchanged. We will continue to stand for what is right, uphold our institutions, and work for the good of our nation,” Cayetano said.

Cayetano also assured that the Senate minority would continue to uphold the rights of Filipinos and perform its constitutional role of scrutinizing government actions.

“We will continue to fulfill our responsibilities as fiscalizers and constructive oppositionists,” he said.

He likewise wished Villar and other senators well, saying, “May GOD grant us all the wisdom, humility, and strength to faithfully serve HIM and the Filipino people.”
