Senator Mark Villar has joined the Senate majority bloc, Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel “Migz” Zubiri said on Thursday.
Zubiri made the statement after Villar was elected as a member of the Commission on Appointments (CA) and named chairman of the Senate Committee on Public Works as part of the majority bloc.
“Yes, we just elected him to the CA and Public Works Committee as part of the majority,” Zubiri said when asked if Villar is now part of the majority bloc.
Villar left the minority bloc led by Senator Alan Peter Cayetano, leaving 10 senators in the group.
Among them are Senator Loren Legarda, who is on medical leave; Senators Jinggoy Estrada and Rodante Marcoleta, who are detained; and Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa, who remains in hiding.
Villar’s transfer comes less than a month after the Office of the Ombudsman launched a preliminary investigation into graft and administrative complaints involving members of the Villar family.
