The Senate on Monday formally received the Office of the Ombudsman’s preventive suspension order against retired police general Mao Aplasca, who is serving as acting Senate Sergeant-at-Arms, along with a subpoena covering CCTV footage linked to the May 13 shooting incident inside the chamber, officials said.
Assistant Ombudsman Mico Clavano said the Senate acknowledged receipt of both the suspension order and the subpoena as part of the ongoing investigation.
The Senate of the Philippines also reportedly obtained the request for CCTV recordings from the night of the incident, which is being examined by investigators.
The move followed earlier claims by Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla over the weekend on DZRH’s Executive Session that the Senate had declined to accept subpoenas connected to the probe.
Remulla said the legal requests included surveillance footage of the May 13 incident as well as documents related to Aplasca, who has been placed under a six-month preventive suspension without pay while the case is under review.
The Office of the Ombudsman is investigating the circumstances of the shooting inside the Senate compound, where Aplasca earlier admitted firing a warning shot during a confrontation allegedly involving the Marines and the National Bureau of Investigation.
