Police efforts to personally serve a subpoena to Sen. Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa in connection with an ongoing investigation into alleged extrajudicial killings under the Duterte administration have so far failed to locate the senator at his listed addresses in the Davao region, officials said Monday.

Philippine National Police (PNP) spokesperson Brig. Gen. Randulf Tuaño said in Camp Crame that Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) personnel were able to serve the subpoena at one of the senator’s addresses in Davao City, but it was received only by a caretaker of the property, as reported by RH Edniel Parrosa.

Authorities said the CIDG issued the subpoena as part of its probe into alleged extrajudicial killings linked to the previous administration’s anti-drug campaign, inviting Dela Rosa to appear before investigators.

Police teams also proceeded to the senator’s ancestral house in Davao del Sur and to his office in Pasay City, Metro Manila, but officials said they are still awaiting updates from their field units regarding the other locations.

Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla earlier told DZRH that Dela Rosa was reportedly in Davao, but later clarified that the subpoena is separate from any reported arrest warrant allegedly issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC) in relation to the same drug war campaign.

Meanwhile, the officials said the subpoena sent to Dela Rosa’s Senate office was not personally received by staff. Despite this, authorities further stated it is considered “deemed received” under police procedure.

Officials did not disclose further steps as the investigation continues.
