Sen. Bam Aquino has filed a resolution calling for a thorough investigation into the reported shooting incident inside the Senate, stressing that armed confrontation has no place within the legislative chamber.
Aquino said Senate Resolution No. 397 aims to establish a clear and complete account of what transpired during the incident, which he noted caused fear among employees and uncertainty even among lawmakers.
“Walang lugar ang armadong komprontasyon o pagputok ng baril sa loob ng Senado,” Aquino said.
“Finile natin yung Senate Resolution 397 para malaman ng taumbayan at malaman rin namin ano ba talaga yung nangyari," he added.
He said several Senate personnel believed their lives were in danger during the incident, underscoring the urgency of clarifying the circumstances surrounding the gunfire.
Aquino added that key details remain unclear, including the sequence of events and the factors that led to the discharge of a firearm within the premises.
The proposed inquiry will also look into possible lapses in security protocols and communication systems, he said.
“Mahalaga sa taong bayan na malaman natin, let's get to the bottom of this, what really happened that night?” Aquino said.
“Malaman natin ano ba talaga mismo yung nangyari at malaman rin natin kung sinong dapat managot.”
Meanwhile, Alan Peter Cayetano strongly criticized minority lawmakers and rejected claims that the Senate was in disarray following recent security-related tensions, saying in a Facebook Live broadcast that he was defending the chamber’s actions and its ongoing impeachment preparations.
