The Boy Scouts of the Philippines (BSP) honored the late Chris Lorenz Fabian with a Gold Gallantry and Heroism Award, the youth organization announced Friday, June 26.

In a social media post, the BSP said the award is its highest, most sacred tribute to members.

“When destiny demanded everything, Chris did not hesitate. His final act was not just a reflection of the Scout Oath; it was its ultimate manifestation. In the face of peril, he stood as a shield, choosing service and duty to others above his own survival,” the BSP wrote.

“Though his flame was extinguished far too soon, the light of his sacrifice will forever pierce the darkness, inspiring generations of Scouts to walk with unyielding honor and fierce bravery,” it added.

Fabian was one of three students killed during a school shooting incident at San Jose National High School in Tacloban City on June 22. Two students, aged 14 and 15, allegedly entered the school premises armed with a 9mm pistol and a .38-caliber revolver and opened fire during school hours.

The said attack left three dead and 20 others injured.

Earlier, the late student was hailed as the “Pride of Pampanga” and was remembered for his "extraordinary courage, selflessness, and noble sacrifice in protecting his classmates and teachers” during the incident. Reports indicated that the Grade 10 student protected his classmates and teachers by holding the classroom door shut to prevent the armed students from entering.

“Let history record that true heroism is never measured by the years we are granted, but by the profound, irreversible impact of the lives we save,’ the BSP stated.

“The brotherhood of Scouting bows its head. One final, enduring Scout Salute to you, Scout Chris Lorenz T. Fabian. Your name is written in honor, your courage is eternal, and you will never, ever be forgotten,” it said in closing.
