The Sandiganbayan Fifth Division has issued a warrant of arrest against Senator Jinggoy Estrada for his non-bailable plunder case over P573 million in alleged kickbacks from flood control projects.
The anti-graft court’s issuance of an arrest warrant for Estrada on Monday, June 1, came days after the senator posted P90,000 bail for a separate graft charge before the same court.
The case involves allegations that Estrada benefited from irregularities in infrastructure projects under the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), through supposed kickbacks linked to public works contracts.
According to a report by RH Val Gonzalez on "Rapido Hataw Balita," the warrant also covers former DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan and three former officials of the DPWH National Capital Region office, identified as Denryl Caesar Cortuna, Manny Bulusan, and Arturo Gonzales Jr.
The Sandiganbayan stated that plunder is a non-bailable offense, and no bail was recommended for the case.
Authorities have been directed to immediately execute the warrant. The court ordered the Philippine National Police (PNP), the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), and other law enforcement agencies to enforce the arrest within 10 days of receipt of the warrant.
“Pursuant to Section 4, Rule 113 of the 2000 Rules of Criminal Procedures, this warrant must be executed within ten (10) days from receipt hereof. Within ten (10) days after the expiration of said period, the officer to whom this warrant was assigned for execution shall make a written report to this Court of the action taken thereon. In case of failure to execute the warrant, he shall state the reason therefore,” the Sandiganbayan order stated.
The development comes days after the Sandiganbayan Second Division issued a separate arrest warrant and hold departure order (HDO) against Estrada in connection with a graft case also linked to alleged kickbacks from flood control projects.
The latest warrant marks a second arrest order issued against the senator.
