Senator Jinggoy Estrada arrived at the Sandiganbayan on Friday, May 29, to post bail amounting to ₱90,000 in connection with a graft case linked to alleged anomalies in flood control projects.
The senator was seen entering the premises of the anti-graft court, but did not entertain questions from members of the media upon arrival.
His appearance came just hours after the Sandiganbayan 2nd Division issued a warrant of arrest and a hold departure order (HDO) against him and several individuals in relation to the case.
In a statement, Estrada said he was exercising his legal rights by posting bail and submitting himself to the jurisdiction of the court.
“I am personally posting bail before the Sandiganbayan in relation to the arrest warrant issued by its Second Division,” he said.
“Posting bail is a legal remedy available to me under our justice system, and I intend to avail myself of every lawful means to defend myself and clear my name,” he added.
Estrada also firmly denied the accusations against him, describing them as baseless.
“Mariin kong itinatanggi ang mga paratang laban sa akin. Ang mga ito ay walang batayan at walang bahid ng katotohanan,” he said.
He emphasized respect for legal processes and institutions, saying his decision to post bail reflects his commitment to due process.
“I respect the rule of law and our judicial institutions, and this is precisely why I am posting bail and personally submitting myself to the jurisdiction of the Sandiganbayan,” he added.
He also expressed hope for a fair resolution of the case, saying he trusts that justice and truth will prevail.
“Umaasa ako sa patas na pagtrato, due process, at pagiging walang kinikilingan sa pagdinig ng kasong ito. Nagtitiwala ako na sa huli, mananaig ang hustisya at ang katotohanan,” Estrada said.
