

Seven airports in Samar and Leyte remain operational after a magnitude 6 earthquake jolted the town of San Julian in Eastern Samar on Monday, May 4, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) announced.
According to the agency, the airports did not sustain any damage, RH Noche Cacas reported.
Moreover, the seven airports that remain operational are the following: Calbayog Airport, Borongan Airport, Catbalogan Airport, Hilongos Airport, Catarman Airport, Guiuan Airport, and Ormoc Airport.
Cacas reported that Borongan Airport is currently experiencing a power outage.
Meanwhile, the CAAP said it has deployed its aircraft rescue and firefighting units and assured the public that all necessary measures have been taken to ensure the safety of the airports and personnel.
Around 2:09 PM on Monday, the PHIVOLCS announced that a magnitude 6.1 earthquake struck near San Julian, Eastern Samar. The agency also warned residents of possible damage and aftershocks.
In an update, the PHIVOLCS announced that the magnitude of the quake has been lowered to 6.0.
Following the quake, Eastern Samar Governor Ralph Vincent Evardone ordered the suspension of classes at all levels, including government work in both public and private offices.
