Government work in both public and private offices, as well as classes at all levels, have been suspended across Eastern Samar following a magnitude 6.1 earthquake that struck the province.

In a executive order on Monday, Governor Ralph Vincent Evardone ordered the suspension to ensure public safety and to allow authorities sufficient time to inspect buildings and assess potential damage to infrastructure.

The directive aims to guarantee the safety of employees and students while giving local officials the opportunity to evaluate the extent of the earthquake’s impact.

Residents are being advised to remain alert for possible aftershocks and to follow all advisories issued by local disaster response agencies.

The suspension of classes and government work is a standard precautionary measure in the province during emergencies, as officials prioritize public safety and the rapid assessment of affected areas.
