“Hayaan mo na lang sila.”
This was House Speaker Martin Romualdez's answer when asked about his comment on the impeachment complaint against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
RH 12 Milky Rigonan reported on Friday, May 9, that Romualdez said he does not know what motivated former National Youth Commission Chairman Ronald Cardema and his wife, Marie Cardema, to file an impeachment complaint against the President.
“We’re not in session right now, so not much can be done,” Romualdez clarified in an ambush interview with reporters.
Moreover, he stated that the House Secretary General, Reginald Velasco, is in a seminar. Thus, his office cannot formally accept the impeachment complaint.
Meanwhile, the Makabayan bloc described the move as a desperate, divisive tactic to distract the public from the Dutertes’ cases. Rigonan also reported that Representatives France Castro, Arlene Brosas, and Raoul Manuel said that the Cardemas are only there in support of the Duterte family.
Additionally, the Makabayan bloc emphasized the agenda of holding Vice President Sara Duterte accountable for the misuse of confidential funds.
On Thursday, the Duterte Youth Partylist, led by the Cardemas, filed an impeachment complaint against Marcos, citing the alleged violations under Article XI, Sections 2 and 3 of the 1987 Philippine Constitution.
Later that day, Tingog Partylist Rep. Jude Acidre stated this was a publicity stunt.
