Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Rex Gatchalian has announced his intention to file his courtesy resignation in response to President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr.'s recent call for all cabinet secretaries to resign.

“I serve at the pleasure of the President. I will immediately file my courtesy resignation this morning,” Gatchalian wrote in a post on X (formerly Twitter) early Thursday morning, May 22, 2025.

This comes shortly after President Marcos issued a directive urging certain Cabinet officials and high-ranking government appointees to submit courtesy resignations as part of a broader administrative review.

Secretary Gatchalian has held the DSWD post since February 2023.
