Former Ateneo de Manila University men’s basketball head coach Tab Baldwin appeared before the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI)–Homicide Division on Monday afternoon in connection with the ongoing investigation into the deaths of two Ateneo student-athletes.

Baldwin, accompanied by his legal counsel Atty. Karl David, arrived at the NBI office at around 1:40 p.m. However, he declined to issue any statement or answer questions from members of the media.

His appearance comes after he previously failed to attend a scheduled subpoena from the bureau, having been a “no show” during an earlier summons last week.

The NBI is conducting a fact-finding investigation into the circumstances surrounding the deaths of student-athletes Rene Baterbonia and Divine Adili, which occurred during a team-related activity in Aurora province.

Authorities have also been gathering statements from several Ateneo officials and members of the men’s basketball program as part of the probe.

According to earlier reports, Baldwin had postponed multiple appearances before the bureau due to personal and health-related reasons, with investigators rescheduling his appearance several times before Monday’s attendance.

Despite complying with the subpoena, Baldwin maintained silence as he entered and left the NBI premises, leaving questions from the press unanswered as the investigation continues.

Authorities have yet to release further details on the progress of the case, while additional witnesses and documents from Ateneo officials are expected to be submitted in the coming days as part of the continuing inquiry.
