For the third time, the appearance of former Ateneo Blue Eagles coach Tab Baldwin before the National Bureau of Investigation has been postponed, the NBI said.
According to a report by RH Jecelle Ricafort, the NBI–Homicide Division told DZRH News that Baldwin is now expected to appear on Tuesday, June 23, in compliance with a bureau subpoena.
Officials earlier said Baldwin was supposed to appear Monday after failing to show up last Friday.
His absence that day coincided with proceedings at the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, where he was reportedly present in connection with the cases involving the deaths of former student-athletes Rene Baterbonia and Divine Adili, prompting a deferment.
Baldwin was first subpoenaed last Tuesday, June 16 but did not appear, saying he was ‘not in good condition’.
Also expected this week is the submission of documents from Ateneo de Manila University President Fr. Roberto Yap, who was issued a subpoena duces tecum.
The NBI had initially aimed to conclude its investigation into the deaths of Baterbonia and Adili last week but was unable to finish the probe. NBI Director Melvin Matibag said investigators will examine all angles to determine the truth behind the case.
Meanwhile, lawyers for Ateneo assistant coach CJ Elumba and student manager Paolo Adevoso appeared before the NBI–Homicide Division in response to subpoenas.
Adevoso’s lawyer requested that his client be allowed to appear before the bureau on June 24 instead.
