Davao City 2nd District Rep. Omar Duterte criticized the issuance of an arrest warrant against his aunt, Vice President Sara Duterte, in connection with her grave threats case, calling it a “clear act of political harassment.”

“As a public servant and as someone who cares deeply about our nation, my heart breaks to see what is happening to our country today. The recent issuance of a warrant of arrest against Vice President Sara Z. Duterte is a clear act of political harassment,” Duterte said in a Facebook post on Saturday. September 5.

“It is painful to watch the power of the government being used to break down and silence people instead of helping them,” he added.

The lawmaker also claimed that a similar approach had previously been used against his grandfather, former President Rodrigo Duterte.

“We have seen this kind of approach before. They did it to PRRD, to Tatay Digong. They used the power and the law to discredit and pressure him. And now, we are seeing the same oppression being done to our Vice President,” Omar Duterte said.

He also called on Filipinos to pay close attention to the actions of the current administration.

“To the Filipino people, I ask you with all sincerity: please wake up and see what the current administration is doing,” he said.

“This is no longer just about Vice President Sara Duterte. This is about our dignity as a nation and the safety of every single family in our country. We must stand together, look out for one another, and fight for what is right,” he added.

The Vice President has posted a total of P360,000 in bail for three counts of grave threats.
