Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla disagreed with the Philippine National Police’s proposal to work with the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) in addressing rising incidents of violence in schools.

“Not SK. Hindi pwede SK,” Remulla said.

“Barangay tanod pwede, pero hindi pwede SK,” he added.

Remulla said barangay tanods may assist in providing security in schools, but SK officials should not be tapped for the task.

The statement came after PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said the police were studying possible coordination with SK leaders to help address violence in schools.

Nartatez said SK leaders could help monitor community activities and identify early signs of potential violence before they escalate.

Remulla, however, maintained that the role of providing security assistance should be given to barangay tanods rather than SK officials.
