The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) is investigating a reported threat at the University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman after an Instagram message warning of violence at Palma and Malcolm halls prompted a security inspection on Thursday.
Police said an administrative staff member received a message that allegedly read, “Maghahasik ng lagim sa buong Palma at Malcolm. Humanda kayong lahat.”
Explosive ordnance disposal personnel inspected Palma Hall at around 1:50 p.m. on Oct. 15 but found no suspicious or hazardous items, the QCPD said in a statement Friday.
Initial investigation identified the alleged sender as a UP student. A friend of the student reportedly told investigators that the message was related to the student's newly purchased perfume, which he intended to use at school. Police said the information remains subject to verification.
The QCPD is continuing its investigation and may coordinate with the Philippine National Police Anti-Cybercrime Group to verify the message's origin and authenticity and preserve digital evidence.
Police urged the public to avoid spreading unverified information and report suspicious activities or potential threats through E911 or the Quezon City Helpline 122.
