The Philippine National Police (PNP) has sought the assistance of the Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLC) in conducting a financial investigation into a drug shipment from Laos that was allegedly bound for the Philippines.
PNP spokesperson Police Colonel Allen Rae Co said investigators are evaluating all the evidence gathered to trace the full financial flow of the transaction, according to a DZRH's report of Edniel Parrosa.
Meanwhile, Co said three persons of interest have yet to respond to subpoenas issued by the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG).
Co declined to confirm whether Sultan Edrieza Nasser Rimbang, a former member of the Bangsamoro parliament who was allegedly linked to the group’s financing, was among those who ignored the subpoenas.
“Tatlo na lang po… who did not answer the subpoena. Iniintay po na lang, that’s why we are calling on them. They know who they are. We are calling on them to appear before the CIDG,” Co said.
He added that authorities could file a case for indirect contempt against those who fail to appear, while assuring that they would be given an opportunity to present their side.
More than 500 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine, locally known as shabu, were previously seized from a private jet in Laos. The illegal drugs were reportedly intended for shipment to the Philippines.
PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. earlier said at least 10 individuals could be included in the case being prepared by the CIDG in connection with the shipment.
