The Philippine National Police (PNP) said it is ready to implement a reported arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC) against Senator Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa, but stressed that action can only proceed upon the issuance of a proper court order and coordination with international law enforcement bodies.
PNP spokesperson PBGen. Randulf Tuaño said the police force has already organized a task force that will carry out the warrant, but emphasized that enforcement will depend on proper legal processes, including coordination through the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) and the Philippine Center for Transnational Crime (PCTC).
“In the event that a court order is issued based on coordination through the NCB/PCTC and concerned authorities, the PNP will implement the appropriate contingency plans and necessary operational measures in accordance with due process and established protocols,” Tuaño said in a statement.
“The PNP remains guided by existing laws and lawful directives in relation to the reported ICC warrant confirmation,” he added.
PNP Chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said over the weekend that dela Rosa would be afforded due process, as he is reportedly being named a co-accused alongside former President Rodrigo Duterte in connection with alleged crimes against humanity linked to the government’s war on drugs.
Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla, however, maintained as of Monday night that the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) has yet to receive an official copy of the warrant, which was earlier made public by former senator Antonio Trillanes IV.
Meanwhile, authorities at Camp Crame said the task force formed by the DILG — co-led by the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) — is also prepared to assist in implementing the warrant once legal requirements are met.
