Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said Monday that authorities have yet to receive any indication that Sen. Rodante Marcoleta intends to surrender following the issuance of an arrest warrant against him in a plunder case.
“Wala pa akong natatanggap,” Nartatez told reporters, referring to possible surrender feelers from the senator.
The police chief said tracker teams, manhunt units, and warrant servers have been activated around the clock to locate Marcoleta and his co-accused.
“Proper teams, manhunt teams, atsaka warrant servers, they are activated 24 hours,” he said.
Marcoleta earlier went to the Sandiganbayan to attend a scheduled hearing on motions submitted to the court’s Third Division last Friday.
The Third Division has since directed the arrest of Marcoleta, former congressman Mike Defensor, and two businessmen over a plunder case tied to the alleged failure to disclose ₱75 million in campaign contributions.
Presiding Justice Karl Miranda of the Third Division confirmed on Monday that arrest warrants had been issued, two days after the Office of the Ombudsman filed the charges before the anti-graft court.
In addition, the court placed Marcoleta and his three co-accused under a precautionary hold departure order, preventing them from leaving the country while the case remains under litigation.
