Sen. Rodante Marcoleta arrived at the Sandiganbayan on Monday for a scheduled hearing on two motions filed before the anti-graft court in connection with plunder charges linked to alleged undeclared campaign donations.
According to a report by RH Val Gonzales, Marcoleta, along with former congressman Mike Defensor, filed a Motion to Quash Information and a Motion to Defer Issuance of Warrant of Arrest before the Sandiganbayan’s Third Division on Friday.
The motions stem from multiple cases filed by the Office of the Ombudsman accusing the two of involvement in the alleged mishandling of a ₱75 million campaign donation.
Prosecutors allege that Marcoleta failed to declare the amount in his campaign expenditure reports during the 2025 elections.
In their filings, Marcoleta and Defensor argued that the charges lack legal basis and urged the court to dismiss the plunder case outright. They also asked the court to hold off on issuing arrest warrants while the motions are under consideration.
The Sandiganbayan has yet to rule on the motions.
