The Philippines delivered its best-ever performance in the Asian Beach Games, finishing fifth overall at the 2026 edition in Sanya with a total haul of nine medals, the Philippine Olympic Committee said.
Team Philippines secured three gold, four silver and two bronze medals, marking its highest ranking in the history of the regional meet and matching its all-time high of three golds previously achieved in 2014.
Leading the gold medalists were Leonard Grospe in men’s beach athletics high jump, Annie Ramirez in women’s -57kg jiu-jitsu, and Alexandria Luz Enriquez in women’s -63kg jiu-jitsu.
The country also earned four silver medals, including from the Gilas Pilipinas Women's 3x3 Team composed of Kaye Pingol, Mikka Cacho, Reynalyn Ferrer and Elisha Gabriell Bade.
Other silver medalists were the women’s 4x60-meter relay team in beach athletics, Emily Rosalynn Thomas in women’s -57kg jiu-jitsu, and Dhenver John Castillo in boys’ foil windsurfing.
Bronze medal winners included Jessica Rose Laurance in the women’s 60 meters of beach athletics and Jenna Kaila Napolis in women’s -52kg jiu-jitsu.
Host nation China topped the medal table with 24 gold medals, followed by Thailand with 10 gold medals. Iran placed third with nine gold medals, while Vietnam finished fourth with three gold medals.
The result highlights a steady rise for the Philippines in the Asian Beach Games. The country failed to win gold in its first three appearances in 2008, 2010 and 2012, before breaking through in 2014. It's 2026 showing pushed it higher in the continental standings despite a smaller overall medal count compared to previous editions.
Philippine Olympic Committee officials said the performance reflects continued development in non-traditional and beach sports, with athletes showing competitiveness across multiple disciplines.
The next edition of the Asian Beach Games is scheduled to be hosted by the Philippines in Cebu in 2028, where organizers aim to build on the momentum of the national team’s historic finish.
