President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. is concerned that the impeachment complaints filed against two of the highest officials in the government may affect the country’s economy.
In a press briefing on Monday, Palace Press Officer Usec. Claire Castro explained that the President is not worried about himself, as he knows he did not commit any impeachable offense.
“Ang pagsasampa po ng impeachment complaint laban sa Pangulo, hindi lamang ang Pangulo ang maaapektuhan nito kundi ang buong bansa at pati ang ekonomiya,” said Castro.
“Nababahala po ang Pangulo sa impeachment complaint na isinampa sa kanya, hindi para sa sarili niya dahil alam niya na wala siyang ginawang mali at walang impeachable offense siyang nagawa, pero nag-aalala siya sa epekto nito sa ekonomiya,” she furthered.
The statement came amid ongoing proceedings regarding the impeachment complaints filed against Marcos and Vice President Sara Duterte in the House of Representatives.
The House Committee on Justice later declared that the two impeachment complaints filed against Marcos Jr. are sufficient in form, paving the way for the next phase of proceedings.
The first impeachment complaint against Marcos was filed by Atty. Andre de Jesus on January 19, 2026. It cites grounds including culpable violation of the Constitution, graft and corruption, and betrayal of public trust.
On January 22, another impeachment complaint was filed by the Makabayan bloc and allied groups, citing grounds such as betrayal of public trust, misallocation and abuse of discretionary power, and charges tied to systemic corruption and patronage.
Earlier on Monday, two fresh impeachment complaints were also filed against Vice President Sara Duterte. One was filed by the Makabayan coalition, citing betrayal of public trust, culpable violation of the Constitution, and abuse of power.
Minutes after the first complaint, Tindig Pilipinas convenor Kiko Aquino Dee, former Presidential Peace Process Adviser Ging Deles, Father Flavie Villanueva, and others went to the House Secretary General to file the second impeachment complaint. It was endorsed by ML Party-list Rep. Leila de Lima and Akbayan Rep. Percy Cendaña, citing betrayal of public trust, graft and corruption, and high crimes or misconduct in office.
