President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. emphasized that the political alignment of senators has no influence on the cases being filed by the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Office of the Ombudsman, stressing that all complaints are based strictly on evidence and investigative findings.
The president made the statement during a media briefing in Tokyo, Japan, on Friday, May 29, amid allegations raised by Senator Imee Marcos that members of the Senate majority bloc are being systematically weakened through the filing of legal complaints.
Marcos rejected the claim, underscoring that prosecutions are not politically motivated but are instead anchored on evidence gathered through official investigations.
“Kung tutuusin ninyo, hindi sila majority noon. So that does not apply. It was because of the allegations that were made and the investigations that were conducted upon learning of those allegations,” the president said.
He further pointed out that the names involved in ongoing investigations emerged from testimonies and findings of the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee, which were subsequently forwarded to relevant government agencies for appropriate action.
The President also noted that the public has long been calling for accountability regarding alleged irregularities in flood control projects, adding that investigations are now gradually producing results.
“Maraming nagsasabi, bakit wala pang nangyayari? … Ngayon, nandito na. At dahan-dahan lumalabas na ang katotohanan,” Marcos said.
He added that due process will determine whether cases have merit, assuring that those who are innocent will be cleared following proper evaluation.
Marcos stressed that investigations remain ongoing, with authorities continuing to gather intelligence and evidence on various allegations against different individuals, regardless of political affiliation.
