Malacañang defended the administration’s push for accountability in sports infrastructure projects following Senator Pia Cayetano’s “shit show” remark concerning issues surrounding sports facilities in Clark.

Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Undersecretary and Palace Press Officer Atty. Claire Castro addressed the issue during a press briefing with the Philippine media delegation in Singapore on October 9, 2026.

Castro emphasized that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. wants sports infrastructure projects to meet world-class standards while ensuring that corruption and irregularities are not tolerated.

She also cited the need to investigate alleged irregularities involving sports facilities constructed in connection with previous Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) projects, stressing that those found responsible for corruption must be held accountable.

The Palace’s remarks came amid discussions over bureaucratic obstacles affecting the development of sports facilities for Filipino athletes, as well as the reported issuance of subpoenas to sports officials in connection with the Clark-related issues.

Castro maintained that investigating possible anomalies is necessary to protect public funds and ensure the integrity of government infrastructure projects.
