More than 10,000 members of the Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) gathered along the EDSA People Power Monument on Tuesday, June 30, as thousands of police personnel were deployed to secure the area following earlier tensions.
The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) was placed on full alert as early as 5 a.m. to ensure readiness for the mass gathering.
As of 10 a.m., authorities recorded an overall 10,850 rally participants across four monitored protest sites, including EDSA and Liwasang Bonifacio.
Police deployment in Metro Manila reached 5,936, with more than 3,000 assigned along White Plains Avenue alone, according to police officials.
By 11:30 a.m., the crowd estimate at the People Power Monument was placed at around 10,250, according to NCRPO spokesperson Police Major Hazel Asilo.
The NCRPO further reported that the overall situation had remained generally peaceful despite earlier incidents.
Officials said conditions on the ground had stabilized, with no further reports of pushing or confrontations among demonstrators.
The NCRPO also maintained that police would not disperse the gathering despite the absence of a permit, following guidance from the Department of the Interior and Local Government, as long as the assembly remains orderly.
Authorities further emphasized that there was no double standard in handling the INC rally compared with protests staged by militant groups, noting that law enforcement protocols were applied uniformly.
As of writing, INC members continued their program in support of Sen. Rodante Marcoleta, who may face a plunder complaint in the coming days.
