The Office of the Ombudsman is set to file a plunder case against Senator Rodante Marcoleta before the Sandiganbayan this week, Ombudsman Jesus Crispin "Boying" Remulla announced on Monday, June 29.
Remulla said the case stems from Marcoleta's alleged receipt of ₱75 million in undeclared campaign donations during the 2025 national elections.
According to the Ombudsman's Field Investigation Bureau, the alleged campaign contributions included ₱30 million from former congressman Mike Defensor, ₱25 million from Joseph Espiritu, and ₱20 million from Aristotle Viray.
The Office of the Ombudsman said the alleged donations were not declared in Marcoleta's Statement of Assets, Liabilities, and Net Worth (SALN), forming part of the basis for the plunder complaint.
Plunder is a non-bailable offense under Philippine law.
Marcoleta has acknowledged receiving the donations but maintained that the cases filed against him are politically motivated and intended to intimidate government critics.
Last week, Marcoleta released a video message claiming that an arrest warrant had already been prepared against him. The Philippine National Police (PNP), however, denied the claim, saying no arrest warrant had been issued.
Meanwhile, Remulla also disclosed that the Office of the Ombudsman is set to release the results of its preliminary investigation involving Senator Joel Villanueva in connection with alleged anomalies in flood control projects.
