

Malacañang on Monday announced that the Office of the President (OP) will provide P30,000 in financial assistance to each family displaced by the massive fire that struck the Parola Compound in Binondo, Manila on Saturday, May 23, 2026.
“Makikipag-ugnayan ang Office of the President sa lokal na pamahalaan ng Maynila upang mabilis na maipamahagi ang tulong pinansyal sa mga biktima ng sunog,” Palace Press Officer Usec. Claire Castro said during a press briefing on Monday, May 25.
She also said that the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has so far extended nearly P5.6 million worth of assistance to families affected by the fire.
“Sa kabuuan, umabot na sa halos P5.6M ang tulong na naipaabot ng DSWD sa mga kababayan nating na biktima ng sunog sa Binondo,” Castro said.
The aid is on top of the P10,000 cash assistance already distributed under the agency’s Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situations (AICS) program.
Meanwhile, the National Housing Authority (NHA) is also set to provide P30,000 worth of aid to displaced families through its Emergency Housing Assistance Program.
Malacañang has likewise directed the Department of Health (DOH) to monitor the health condition of evacuees and affected residents.
The DOH reported that it has distributed more than P230,000 worth of medicines, vitamins, and hygiene kits to residents staying in evacuation centers. The agency has also deployed Human Resources for Health personnel to assist affected communities.
For its part, the Manila City Government provided P15,000 in financial assistance to each affected family on Monday, May 25.
More than 2,000 families were displaced by the fire, which escalated to Task Force Bravo at 4:10 p.m. on Saturday and reached Task Force Charlie by 5:15 p.m.
According to the Manila Department of Social Welfare (MDSW), the fire started at around 3:00 p.m. in Barangay 275, Zone 25 in Binondo. The blaze continued to spread before authorities declared the fire under control at 12:17 a.m. on Sunday, May 24.
Authorities reported no casualties, while investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the fire and assess the total extent of the damage.
