

A total of 2,134 families or 7,123 individuals were affected after a massive fire struck Brgy. 275, Parola Compound in Binondo, Manila on Saturday.
According to the Manila Department of Social Welfare (MDSW), the blaze started at around 3:00 p.m. in Barangay 275, Zone 25. The fire escalated to Task Force Charlie before authorities declared a fire out at 12:17 a.m. on Sunday, May 24.
Authorities said a total of 1,266 structures were affected by the fire, all of which were reported totally damaged.
Of the affected households, 1,266 were owners, 543 were renters, while 325 were classified as sharers.
The report also showed that among those affected were 2,768 minors, including 1,435 boys and 1,333 girls.
Meanwhile, at least 310 senior citizens were also displaced by the incident, composed of 126 males and 184 females.
Due to the incident, hundreds of families spent the night along the streets, while others temporarily stayed in evacuation centers.
The Manila local government is now preparing financial assistance for the fire victims.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
