The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) has not monitored any security threat outside the Senate, NCRPO Director Maj. Gen. Anthony Aberin told DZRH News.
In a report by RH Jecelle Ricafort, Aberin said authorities are also validating reports regarding a possible security threat involving the Senate. However, he clarified that matters concerning security inside the Senate are beyond the jurisdiction of the Philippine National Police (PNP).
Aberin said more than 200 police personnel are currently deployed around the Senate premises to ensure security, adding that additional forces may be assigned if necessary.
He noted that police deployment in the area is conducted daily, as authorities anticipate regular protests and public gatherings near the Senate complex.
The barbed-wire barricades installed outside the Senate earlier this week remain in place as part of heightened security measures.
Meanwhile, tents previously occupied by supporters Duterte family along the northbound lane of Diokno Boulevard have already been removed.
Security protocols have also been tightened by the Office of the Senate Sergeant-at-Arms (OSAA) and security personnel stationed at the Senate's main gate.
Vehicles entering the Senate compound are subjected to inspection, including checks using underneath inspection mirrors. Signages have also been posted requiring motorists to stop for vehicle inspections. Visitors are required to present identification cards and are asked about the purpose of their visit before being allowed entry.
On Tuesday, Senate President Pro Tempore Win Gatchalian disclosed that the Senate had received information about potential security threats based on an intelligence report from the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).
“Ayon sa NBI, may mga intelligence na ipinasa sa atin na may mga banta na maaaring mangyari sa Senado,” Gatchalian said.
As of now, NBI Director Atty. Melvin Matibag has yet to release any official statement or additional information regarding the reported threats.
